LONG POINT — Richard W. Higbie Sr., 79, of Long Point, passed away Saturday evening, April 7, at his home.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Winterrowd Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Central Church of Christ, Streator. Burial will be in Long Point Cemetery.

Dick was born March 7, 1939, in Watertown, Wis., to Warren and Mabel (Propp) Higbie. He married Cheryl Olesen Elliott on Dec. 14, 1978. She survives.

Also surviving are children, Richard Higbie Jr., of Long Point, Dale (Cindy) Higbie, of Ventura, Calif., Randy (Cheryl) Higbie, of Denton, Texas, Scott Higbie, of Denton, Alicia (Nick) Hall, of Denver, Colo., Jeffery Vaughn Elliott, of Streator, and Steven Paul Elliott, of Pontiac; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Karen “Cooki”) Higbie, of Benton City, Wash.; sisters, Karen (Jack) Betenz, of Janesville, Wis., Kay (Donald) Reinders, of Jefferson, Wis., and Kathy (Frank) Kexel, of Jefferson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter-in-law, Tami Higbie.

Dick graduated from Jefferson High School in Jefferson, Wis., in 1957. He was employed with the former Pontiac Chair Factory for many years, and for many years he worked at the Long Point Post Office.

Dick had served for many years on the Long Point Village Board and the Long Point Fire Department and was affiliated with Central Church of Christ.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
