Spring Valley has backed out of proposed confederation of police departments on the west side of La Salle County.

“The savings will not be there for Spring Valley, as they would be for the other cities,” Spring Valley Mayor Walt Marini said Friday.

Officials with La Salle, Peru, Oglesby and Spring Valley announced in January they were studying whether to pool their police resources, with the possibility of all four using one station. The proposal was put forth as a cost-saving measure that would not sacrifice police services.

The proposal remains under study by the three remaining communities. Marini said he “wished them the best” with the project.
