Two separate crashes occurred eight minutes apart Wednesday on Interstate 39 near Tonica, because of slick pavement.
At about 5:15 a.m., a northbound semitrailer driven by Victor Christman, 46, Gibson City, veered into the adjacent lane, hitting the side of a semitrailer driven by James Rhoades, 45, Black River Falls, Wis. Both rigs went into the ditch, but neither driver was injured. State police said citations were pending.
About 5:23 a.m., a northbound truck hauling a horse trailer, driven by Clare VanderWoude, 35, Middleton, Wis., went out of control and came to a stop in the median. Neither the driver nor the three horses in the trailer were injured. Police said citations are pending.
