NAPLES, Fla. — Kenneth James Carpenter, 79, of Naples, Fla., died Thursday, March 22.
He was born April 29, 1938, in Streator, to Edwin LaVerne and Helen (Clark) Carpenter.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lorene (Janke) Carpenter; sons, Douglas (Cindy) J. Carpenter, of Charlotte, N.C., and Gary L. Carpenter, of Naples; four granddaughters, Haley and Janna, of Naples, and Meagan and Adrienne, of Charlotte; sister, Betty Finch, of Galesburg; brother, Greg (Linda) Carpenter, of Streator; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Carolyn Kmetz and Virginia Elliott.
Upon graduating from Streator High School in 1956, he served as an apprentice sign painter, and then established an electrical sign business. In June 1972, the family moved to Naples. He started a sign business specializing in commercial and real estate signs and architectural renderings, retiring in 2004. He then was employed at Sunshine Ace Hardware until he retired in 2015.
A Celebration of Life will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at North Naples Church, 6000 Goodlette Road North, Naples. Memorials may be directed to Avow Hospice.
