A Seneca couple and their grandchild lost their home to a fire Easter morning.

Seneca firefighters responded at 10:51 a.m. Sunday to a trailer at 430 N. Crotty Lane, Lot 4. The family was in Springfield for the holiday at the time of the fire and no firefighters were injured in fighting the blaze, however, one of the family’s four dogs was found dead.

The trailer was a total loss, according to Deputy Chief Jason Bersano. The fire is believed to have originated in the kitchen, but a cause has not been determined. The fire is under investigation by MABAS15.

Marseilles, Ottawa and Newark fire departments assisted at the scene, as well as Morris and Marseilles ambulances.
