Gurnee Park District wins gold for aquatic safety

GURNEE – Jeff Ellis and Associates, aquatic safety and risk management consultants, have awarded the 2017 Gold International Aquatic Safety Award to the Gurnee Park District.

Unannounced audits evaluated the effectiveness of training, supervision and record keeping. Gurnee Park District scored in the top 30 percent of criteria, according to a news release. Guests are consistently being afforded with the highest degree of swimmer protection available, the release stated.

“I’m thrilled to congratulate our dedicated team who continue to keep our visitors safe,” aquatic manager Kara Moss said in the release.

With the Jeff Ellis and Associates Pool and Lifeguard license, rescue skills are kept up to industry standards with eight hours of training a month. In addition, all aquatic staff trains with the Gurnee Fire Department to review emergency protocols.

“Safety continues to be a top priority throughout the indoor season at FitNation as well as when we enter the 2018 Hunt Club Aquatic Center season in May,” Moss said.
