Barrington NSDAR chapter to host awards event Feb. 24

BARRINGTON – The Barrington area Signal Hill Chapter, National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, will host its annual American History Essay Contest and Good Citizens Award recognition event at 2 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Barrington Area Library.

At the beginning of the school year, fifth- through eighth-grade students from area schools, and home-schooled students as well, were invited to submit essays on the topic “World War I – Remembering the War to End All Wars.”

More than 50 essays were submitted, and students who participated will be recognized at all levels of participation, with the winners’ sponsoring schools receiving engraved plaques with the students’ names.

One high school senior will receive the Good Citizens Award, which is a $1,000 scholarship. This year the chapter also will present an Outstanding Teacher Award.

The event is open to the public. For details, email Terri Brinkmeier at BrinkmeierDARHistorian@gmail.com.
